They're different books by different publishers that differ by approximately 38,000 words in the Text volume alone!

We're not surprised, we think we know why, and it's kind of a long story.

Briefly, Doug Thompson’s editions are published by Miracles in Action Press to be the most accurate, most accurately represented, most completely footnoted, most positively testimonialized, most Bible and Christian friendly editions on the planet.... with a lot of help from Jesus' own ORIGINAL words and grammar.

In other words, we don't omit or rearrange words or change emphasis or rearrange or omit passages or "personal" material based on our personal fears, and we don't use the Chicago Manual of Style to edit what HE ORIGINALLY said and Helen Schucman ORIGINALLY heard and ORIGINALLY wrote down.. and/or ORIGINALLY reiterated to BILL THETFORD, who was ORIGINALLY given the task of editing by the ORIGINAL AUTHOR :-0 ;-)

A Course in Miracles Original Dictation Edition and Urtext Manuscripts represent the oldest available handwritten notes and typed copy of the words dictated by a voice to Columbia University professor, research psychologist, and Scribe Helen Schucman, Ph.D. between 1965 and 1978. The voice, claimed Schucman, was Jesus... and after many years of study we still believe her. From 1965 to 1978 Schucman followed the instruction of the voice, "This is a course in miracles, please take notes." Those familiar with the various editions of A Course in Miracles will find the Origianl Manuscripts to be substantially more detailed in explaining the author's reasoning in the early chapters of the Text volume. This is due to our restoration of approximately 50,000 words omitted from editions based on the Foundation for Inner Peace (FIP) abridgment, and 38,000 words from the Hugh Lynn Cayce abridgement upon which the Course in Miracles Society edition is based and further editied despite its claim of being an "Original" edition.

These editions are far closer to the original dictation recorded in Helen Schucman's Shorthand Notebooks and Urtext Manuscripts than every other edition offered to the public. Heavy editing and abridgement by Drs. Schucman, Thetford and Wapnick resulted in the ommission of extensive discussions of the Bible, sex, possession, Freud, Spiritual eye, Soul and other topics that were severely abridged or completely edited out of all 3 FIP/FACIM/VIKING editions and the Hugh Lynn Cayce Manuscript upon which the so-called "Original Edition" is based. We've included over 2400 footnotes to references on variant ACIM readings and Bible verses and extensive appendices with commentary on the versions and history of A Course in Miracles by Doug Thompson, compiler and editor of this remarkable edition. Other editions make the Bible seem like a non-existant or irrelevant text while we not only acknowledge it, we give it a prominent place in A Course in Miracles right where Jesus tells us it belongs!

We include a free companion website with concordances and source material libraries that include free online copies of every other edition in print. Around 1969, Drs. Schucman and Thetford provided one transcription of A Course in Miracles to Hugh Lynn Cayce, son of Edgar Cayce, an internationally known and sought after psychic healer. According to testimony at the copyright trial, this sharing of the uncopyrighted Text was to obtain Mr. Cayce's "opinion" of the material.
This version wasn't discovered until 1999 during the early stages of the copyright litigation and had none of the other volumes attached. It is not known for certain if the missing volumes were lost or just never provided. Also known as the "HLC" and "Jesus' Course in Miracles" The HLC is not an Urtext Manuscripts version. It was highly edited and formed the basis for the FIP edition of 1976 and the CIMS 2007 "Oridinal Edition" after even further extensive editing! 300 two column pgs perfect bound softcover 8.25 x 11."
